According to Tom Pelissero, “Austin Ekeler gets a $3 million signing bonus and $4.82M total in Year 1, with a chance to earn another $1.5M in incentives this season. A big addition for the new regime in Washington.”
At the official press conference, the running back shared that the Commanders expressed their interest right away when the allotted time for free agency began. The squad further believes that both Brian Robinson and Ekeler can form a potent running back tandem and Ekeler could spearhead the team commendably.
As per Pro Football Talk, Ekeler shared, “They were definitely the most interested, and I think that comes down to the situation in the running back room. They have B-Rob, and if we can bring another back to add to that tandem and bring some leadership to the team, that’s why I thought it was a good fit.”
He further continued, “I’ll score some touchdowns for you, that’s for sure, if you get me in the red zone and find a way to get me the ball in some space.”
Ekeler also takes great satisfaction from mentoring the younger athletes, challenging them, and further assisting them in reaching their full potential. The veteran running back is also confident that he will flourish well with the Commanders squad as well.
