As projected, the modern NBA is more about scoring pace and space, a departure from the ’90s and 2000s version of the league that was decided on defense and post-play.
NBA today is headlined by high-scoring games and large offensive performances, as fans constantly demand such basketball content. Young stars like Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Anthony Edwards have put up some of the NBA’s most impressive scoring outings this season.
On the “The OGs Show” and NBA Central former NBA player Wall called out on the modern-day NBA, he said,
“The NBA…the game just changed so much, it’s hard to watch. It’s hard to watch because nobody’s playing defense. It’s a lot of shots, and it just – for me, it’s like goin’ and playin’ pickup.”
Wall, last played in the NBA in the 2022-23 season with the Clippers, and seemingly isn’t a huge fan of the increase in offense and equated decrease in defense in the league.
He is an All-NBA selection, All-Defensive selection, and All-Rookie selection in his career, known as an elite at getting to the basket with speed and explosiveness for many years.
A former Wizards star whose career was derailed due to injury troubles that cost him the entire 2019-20 season. During his prime, Wall was an eager defender who at the point of attack relished the opportunity to guard opposing players.
The team with the best defensive rating in the NBA this season is the Minnesota Timberwolves at 108.2 and the Washington Wizards lead the NBA in pace at 103.35.
