With plenty of offensive weapons at their disposal, the Houston Texans are now focused on solidifying their defense for the 2024 season. On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the organization is signing defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr. to a one-year deal.
Edwards is experienced veteran with nine NFL seasons under his belt with seven different organizations. Since being drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, he has gone on to feature in 114 regular season games and three playoff games.
Last season with the Seattle Seahawks, Edwards recorded 2 sacks and 21 total tackles over 15 games. Over his career, he has racked up an impressive 21.5 sacks, 52 quarterback hits and 156 total tackles.

After an impressive season where they finished with a 10-7 record to win the AFC South for the first time since 2019, the Texans have been active in the market.
On the defensive front, defensive end Danielle Hunter has been the marquee signing, agreeing to a two-year, $49 million contract. Defensive lineman Denico Autry, Azeez Al-Shaair and cornerback Jeff Okudah have been some of the other big-name additions.
On the offensive side, Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon was picked up after seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
With C.J. Stroud still on a rookie contract, the Texans have invested well to bulk up a defense that ranked 11th in points allowed per game last year (20.8) and 14th in total yards allowed per game (330.7). It will be interesting to see if this team can match, over even exceed, its outstanding 2023 season.
