The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued the arrest warrant for Sutton on March 7 after they responded to a domestic violence call early that morning.
It was at a residence in Lutz, Florida where police found Sutton to have allegedly battered a woman before fleeing the scene.
A sherriff’s spokesperson conveyed to ESPN that their investigation uncovered physical evidence of violence.
The victim showed visible wounds that served as irrefutable proof of the brutal attack she had endured.
Sutton, well-known for maintaining a residence in nearby Pinellas County, has remained elusive.
Despite multiple attempts by law enforcement to find the NFL star at his home and contact him, they have faced a lack of success in their efforts.
Sutton’s silence appears to be absolute, not returning any phone calls from detectives seeking to bring him in about the case.
Caught up in this unsettling saga is Sutton’s current employer, the Detroit Lions. The team released an official statement in which they confirmed that they were aware of the situation involving their cornerback.
However, the statement showed restraint, suggesting a ‘wait-and-watch’ stance as they pledged to keep monitoring the circumstances surrounding Sutton’s case.
“We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning,” the Lions said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the situation and will not have further comment at this time.”
In an unusual twist, the sheriff’s office turned to social media seeking public assistance in the ongoing investigation.
A post requesting information about Sutton’s whereabouts appeared on their official platforms on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old joined Detroit Lions last summer as an unrestricted free agent. Prior to that, he spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sutton had an impressive track record with the Lions, starting all 17 games, achieving 60 total tackles, defending six passes, and seizing one interception.
