The NFC East’s Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants have a long and hostile rivalry that dates back nearly a century (1933). Both franchises have had success over their histories but over recent years it is safe to say the Eagles have gained a slight advantage.
Saquon Barkley and his family understand the rivalry better than most. Barkley was born in the Bronx but moved to Pennsylvania as a young boy. He attended Penn State University where he developed into one of the game’s elite running backs. In 2018, the New York Giants used the no. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft to sign the speedy back. After six season in the Big Apple, Barkley signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
In a recent post that is circulating on social media, Barkley spoke with the Eagles about his new landing spot. The 27-year-old shared a comical story about informing his daughter of the move back to Pennsylvania to which she responded: “Does that mean we’re going to win now?”

Saquon’s daughter makes a fair point. Over six seasons in New York, Saquon’s Giants finished about .500 just once with a 9-7 record in 2022. Overall they have a 34-64 record during that stretch and the only year the Giants qualified for the playoffs, they ended up getting blown out 38-7 against the Eagles in the NFC Divisional Round.
Eagles fans will be delighted to have landed one of the game’s top running backs. Add Barkley to a start-studded offense that includes Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedart, and the Eagles will once again start the year with one of the most potent offense in the NFL.
