“I messed up the TUE” Rams QB Jimmy Garoppolo Opens Up On Two-game NFL Suspension to Start 2024 Season

Jimmy Garoppolo is preparing to start the NFL season with his fourth different team but will not see any action until at least Week 3. Garoppolo, who recently signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams, is suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

Per a recent article on NFL.com, Garoppolo addressed the suspension and provided an explanation for the uncomfortable situation.

“I mean, just messed up the TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption), really,” said Garoppolo. “I hate to joke about it, but I messed up the TUE when I first got to Las Vegas. Bad timing, I guess.”

The TUE is a waiver that permits players to use medications that may otherwise be against the league’s policy.

The veteran quarterback was most likely going to start the season behind two-time Pro Bowler and current starter Matthew Stafford. Both players have plenty of experience under their belt but the fact that Stafford guided the franchise to their first Super Bowl championship in 22 years gives him a slight advantage.

It has been a roller coaster 5-year stretch for Garoppolo who will be looking to revive his career in Southern California. It was not that long ago that he was leading the San Francisco 49ers out at Super Bowl 54 in Miami. Garoppolo struggled to reach his previous highs starting just 31 games over the following three seasons in San Francisco before eventually moving on to the Las Vegas Raiders. His stint with Raiders lasted just seven games before he was benched and later released by the organization.
