Proche, who was originally picked by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, joined the Browns’ practice squad last October and was later signed to the 53-man roster.
During his time with the Browns, he played in 10 games, averaging 9.0 yards on punt returns and had a 19-yard kick return, but he did not make any receptions.
Previously, he appeared in 43 games with the Ravens, catching 25 passes for 278 yards and averaging 8.2 yards on punt returns.
The Browns have also signed cornerback/special teams’ player Tony Brown and defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson.
Proche’s re-signing comes as the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, and the Browns continue to strengthen their roster through free agency.
The Browns and James Proche have agreed to terms on a 1-year deal to bring Proche back. He was the primary punt returner in the back half of last season.
