The prominent cornerback of the Chicago Bears, Jaylon Johnson, has recently signed a four-year $76 million contract extension with the Bears. He had recently shared that the team will situate itself around the upcoming prospect who will join the squad.
Johnson regarding squad’s settling around the new prospect and mentioned as per Pro Football Talk via Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, “We’ll all have our opinions, our emotions, but as far as the locker room staying together, I think we have the right guys in the locker room to keep everything together, to keep us together. We know the business that we’re in. So I feel like it wouldn’t be mature of us as a locker room not to rally together in spite of having Justin leave.”
Johnson was one of the players who was in accordance with Bears moving further with Justin Fields; however, he also mentioned that the squad will move ahead with the starting upcoming quarterback as well. The star quarterback of USC, Caleb Williams, had won the Heisman Trophy and it is highly-anticipated that he would be the No. 1 pick of the Bears squad.

During one of the episodes of “Up and Adams’ show with Kay Adams, Johnson was questioned regarding the quarterback who has been considered a generational talent by many due to his incredible finesse and skills displayed on the field, the cornerback mentioned via NY Post, “You kinda hear all of the comparisons, the ‘generational talent’ and all that being thrown around. So I think, for me, just excited on that note of it. But I think, too, it’s hard to compare him to Patrick Mahomes and guys like that. Patrick Mahomes didn’t come in right away and do what he’s been doing the last few years in his rookie year. It took him some time.”
Continuing further, “Just being patient with his progress, being patient with how he comes in and the mistakes he’s gonna make and the plays that he’s gonna make. He’s a very talented guy. He definitely do some things with his feet, he has plenty of arm talent, I feel like there’s not a throw that he can’t make.”
Williams, who was the top-notch quarterback in the collegiate level. He spent one year in Oklahoma and two-years in USC and registered a total of 10,082 passing yards, 93 touchdown passes, and 27 rushing touchdowns as well.
Johnson further mentioned regarding Williams, “You just humble your stuff coming into the building. You can’t bring that Hollywood stuff into the building, especially with guys who played this game at a high level for consecutive years in the league. What you did in college, the Hollywood, it’s like ‘Nah, you gotta prove yourself. That stuff like that doesn’t matter.’ You gotta get to know him too.”
“I think there’s a fine line between trying to prove a point to him but also getting to know him. At the end of the day, we want him to be the absolute best he can be. That’s what we’re bringing him in for, to win games. Truly just learning who he is as a person and learning him deeper than just all the Hollywood stuff you see, but actually trying to learn and get to know him and then knowing from there what pushes him.”
Williams had also earlier shared that “things can happen, things can change throughout this time” referring to the upcoming draft and he further also mentioned that “You take it day by day and handle and control what you can control.”
