The Arizona Cardinals have recently added former Falcons quarterback, Desmond Ridder to the lineup as the second quarterback behind Kyler Murray.
The general manager of the Cardinals, Monti Ossenfort, shared at a press conference that the quarterback has “played a lot of ball” when he was with the Falcons for the past two campaigns.
Ossenfort shared via the Cardinals, “Desmond played a lot of ball the last two years, starting 17 games, so he’s got some experience. There is no substitute for experience, especially at the quarterback position.”
He further continued, “We’re seeking to add competition to the roster. Adding Desmond to the room with Kyler and Clayton gives us three guys who will give us a good battle. They are all shaped a little differently but they all schematically can do similar things.”
Tune was picked up in the 2023 NFL Draft in the fifth round as the 139th pick and has played in seven games. Whereas, Murray was picked up in the 2019 NFL Draft in the first round as the first pick. Ridder, considering his last two seasons, has participated in nineteen games for the Falcons and has registered 3,544 yards with 12 interceptions and 14 touchdowns.

Head coach, Jonathan Gannon, regarding Ridder, also mentioned, “The skill set. (He’s a ) big guy. Arm talent. Mobility. Smart. Plays fast. That’s what jumped off the tape to me. And I know we had to play him so prepping for him too, talking to some people you know what the character of the guy is, so he was a good addition and what we were looking for there.”
The two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Ridder, is also readily looking forward to his future with the Cardinals and shared, “We just want to make the most of any opportunity with my career and my life as a whole. It didn’t work out but God works in mysterious ways and now we’re in beautiful Arizona.” Ridder played with the Falcons from 2022 to 2023 and will now begin his next journey with the Arizona Cardinals.
