Former South Carolina player Jermaine Couisnard had no mercy for his old team during Thursday’s NCAA tournament first-round game. Playing for Oregon, Couisnard scored an impressive 40 points, leading his team to an 87-73 upset victory over South Carolina.
Couisnard’s outstanding performance made history for Oregon, as he became the first player in the program’s history to score 40 points in a single NCAA tournament game. He shot 14-for-22 from the field and made 5 of 9 three-pointers. In addition to his scoring, Couisnard contributed four rebounds, six assists, a steal, and a takeaway.

Oregon’s center, N’Faly Dante, also played a crucial role in the victory, adding 23 points to the scoreboard. Dante had previously showcased his skills during the Pac-12 tournament, helping the Ducks secure a spot in the NCAA tournament by scoring a career-high 25 points on March 16.
With their win over South Carolina, Oregon advances to face No. 3 Creighton in the next round. Creighton secured their spot by defeating No. 14 Akron in their own first-round matchup on Thursday.
