The NBA is investigating Jontay Porter, a player for the Toronto Raptors, for alleged betting irregularities in two games. Porter has been removed from the lineup for their game against the Brooklyn Nets, and it is uncertain how long he will be out.

The league is examining the increased betting interest on the under for Porter’s prop bets in these games. On January 26, Porter played only four minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers before leaving due to an eye injury, resulting in the under hitting on all prop bet categories.
Similarly, on March 20, he played three minutes against the Phoenix Suns before being ruled out due to illness, and again, the under hit on all categories. It is unclear if Porter himself placed bets or what his involvement is. NBA players and employees are prohibited from betting on any NBA games.
Former Missouri men’s basketball star Jontay Porter, now playing for the Toronto Raptors, is under investigation by the NBA for potential gambling violations. The league noticed suspicious betting activity related to Porter’s individual statistics in two games this season. In both games, bets on the under for Porter’s prop bets were the most profitable for bettors.

Porter left both games early due to an eye injury and an illness, which resulted in significant wins for those who bet the under. The NBA strictly prohibits players and team personnel from placing bets on games or props. Porter was recently withheld from a game against the Brooklyn Nets for undisclosed personal reasons.
The investigation is centered on the games against the Los Angeles Clippers on January 26 and the Sacramento Kings on March 20. In the January 26 game, Porter played only four minutes before exiting due to an eye injury. Similarly, on March 20, he played just three minutes before leaving the game because of an illness. In both cases, Porter’s prop bets were the most profitable for bettors.
Jontay Porter, the younger brother of Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr., signed a two-way contract with the Raptors last December. He has played in 26 games this season, averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 13.8 minutes per game. Porter is in his first season with the Raptors and has averaged 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 26 games. The NBA has not commented on the situation.

It is crucial to note that NBA employees, including players, are strictly prohibited from engaging in gambling activities related to league events. Violations of this policy can result in fines, suspensions, and even contract terminations.
The NBA and individual teams have dedicated personnel monitoring for betting irregularities to ensure the integrity of the sport.

All major sports promote gambling and alcohol 24/7. What do they expect. I'm sure refs, assistant coaches, equipment managers, everyone is doing it. Ofcourse through someone else if they're smart. It's part of the culture
— OG (@OG389) March 25, 2024
if giddey can get away with what he did, this man has nothing to worry about

If there’s any NBA player that should be investigated for betting, it’s Anthony Davis. He’s the only guy in the league who could score 35 points whenever he wants, and doesn’t.

The sports betting revolution and it's consequences:
So far, legalized betting has been the best thing to happen to sports, but the slippery slope is starting to rear its ugly head. More and more stories coming out like this
— Optimistic Wolves Fan (@OCOSports) March 25, 2024
The nba should say we’ll drop the past, but starting next season if you’re caught placing any bets it’s automatic kick out of the league
— Stupid Poptart (@poptart_stupid) March 25, 2024
Bro took his under every game 💀
— RipItRandy (@RipItRandyTV) March 25, 2024
Betting on yourself and taking the under. I respect it

So the league that advertises and encourages betting regularly is opening up an investigation into one of their players for…..betting?
I'm not sure if this is exactly related, but it all sounds messy.— JDJackson (@TheWestWolfPod) March 25, 2024
All he needs is to play 1 second, take the unders on himself and check out the game or not score on purpose and the bookies have to pay out by rules.
This guy probably left some foot prints for the NBA to open an investigation or somebody snitched on him 😭
— Dani (@Danizeh) March 25, 2024
nba literally is advertised by the league and you expected this not to happen
— ً (@nokizzydj) March 25, 2024
They’re gonna get Tatum next. Dude is top 5 in the league when I don’t bet on him but the second I have action on him he turns into Kwame Brown
— The Degenerates (@degen_betting) March 25, 2024
I mean, how much could the guy possibly influence the bets?
He takes like 2 shots per game max lol
