The Clippers are flailing at the worst time of the NBA season following their 121-107 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. They are now only half a game ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans for the 5th seed and three games ahead of the Sacramento Kings from being a play-in team.
They do not lack any defensive versatility for the Clippers, considering the defensive prowess of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
George had officially moved up on the NBA’s all-time list for three-pointers, surpassing Jamal Crawford for sole possession of the 11th-place spot, with 2,222 career threes.
He is also on the list for 10th place Jason Terry with 2,282 career threes. After that, is Vince Carter with 2,290 career threes, possibly to end up at the top of the NBA’s all-time three-point shooters.
Evidently, the lack of effort and intensity has reflected on a team that has championship aspirations. George said in an interview that the Clippers lack an “identity” and head coach, Tyronn Lue’s comments postgame raised even more questions about the team’s state.
George talked about the Clippers being a flip-the-switch team and shared he didn’t believe the team had an identity anymore,
“That’s what we’re appearing to look like, which is not good, not good. We want to be a team that’s consistent, and you know, we want to establish an identity. I’ve always spoken about having an identity and I think it’s extremely important when you’re a team that has an identity, teams know what they’re going up against and right now I don’t think we have an identity.”
Head coach Lue’s commented earlier,
“We can’t fall victim to being tired or whatever the schedule is. We know we have to play better basketball going into the playoffs, or it’s going to be an early season.”
