On Sunday, Diablos Rojos of Mexico City faced off against the New York Yankees in the first of two exhibition games at the Alfredo Harp Helu Stadium.

Pitcher Trevor Bauer worked three scoreless innings in the Diablos Rojos 4-3 win against the Yankees, a former National League Cy Young winner trying to return to MLB and get signed.

It was his first start for Diablos Rojos, who recently signed him for five games. Bauer arrived in Mexico City on Thursday sharing he wanted to face the Yankees in his first outing for the Diablos Rojos.

After the game Bauer said,

“My command was a little bit off. I would have liked not to walk two people. It was my first time pitching at this altitude, so the ball was moving a little bit differently. But it was a good day. The fans were incredible.”

On Sunday’s game, he allowed 4 hits, negotiated 2 tickets, and struck out 3 batters without allowing any runs, in which he especially shined with his line, which ranged between 96-98 mph.

Earlier he was forced to leave the Dodgers after being accused of sexual abuse and assault by several women and has been the subject of the longest suspension in MLB history.

After the event the 33-year-old right-hander is trying to return to the major leagues, the accusation was denied by the pitcher.

Bauer added,

“It was definitively part of the decision (to come to Mexico). I thought it’d be fun to pitch against the Yankees and make some content to entertain the fans. I want to play baseball. I have fun doing it and there are a lot of things about this organization that are very good.”

He has an 83-69 record with a 3.79 ERA in 212 starts and 10 relief appearances with Arizona (2012), Cleveland (2013-19), Cincinnati (2019-20) and the Dodgers (2021).
