“We were willing to keep going at that premium” – Patriots owner Robert Kraft on how team missed out on WR Calvin Ridley despite willingness to match offer

According to the Patriots owner Robert Kraft, New England was set to offer wide receiver Calvin Ridley a deal before he signed with the Titans.

“There was one outstanding receiver that unfortunately we couldn’t close. It was not because of finance,” Kraft said. “Clearly, his girlfriend wanted to be in the South. We had a situation where the taxes were, like, almost 10% higher. We offered- we were willing to keep going at that premium. But he didn’t want to be in the Northeast. And part of it might be the quarterback situation as well.”

Currently, New England Patriots still need a wide receiver.

The quarterback situation can be resolved at the 2024 draft with the Patriots selecting third overall, and whether that will attract wide receivers remains to be seen, at least in the short term.
