Kings’ center Domantas Sabonis took a brutal hit to the jaw early in Monday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, but that didn’t stop him from making history. Despite the injury, Sabonis notched his 54th consecutive double-double, breaking Kevin Love’s record from the 2010–11 season.
In front of a packed crowd at Golden 1 Center, Sabonis helped lead the Kings to a 108-96 victory with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. This win puts the Kings in a tie with the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver witnessed Sabonis’ record-breaking performance firsthand. De’Aaron Fox and Keegan Murray also had solid showings for Sacramento, scoring 23 points each, while Davion Mitchell contributed 18 points off the bench.

Despite a standout performance from Tyrese Maxey, who scored 29 points for the 76ers, they couldn’t overcome the Kings’ dominance. Joel Embiid’s absence, sidelined with a meniscus injury, has been a setback for the 76ers, who have struggled in recent games.
Sabonis leads the league in double-doubles (67) and triple-doubles (25), joining an elite group of players in NBA history. His consistency and durability have earned him praise from Kings coach Mike Brown, who has compared him to some of the greatest players ever.
Sabonis’ achievement is even more remarkable, considering only four players in NBA history have had longer single-season double-double streaks, all of which predate the ABA-NBA merger.
Coach Brown commended Sabonis for his relentless work ethic and determination, which have propelled him into the record books. Despite facing adversity, Sabonis continues to excel on the court, earning fan’s and peers’ admiration.
