Eagles Season-Opener in Brazil to Stream Exclusively on Peacock

The forthcoming NFL season is opening with an unprecedented arrangement, as the Philadelphia Eagles’ opening game will be aired exclusively on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.

This season-opener will be a first in the NFL’s history as it takes place in South America. The identity of the Eagles’ opponent, in addition to the kick-off time, remains undetermined and set for a later reveal.

Breaking a 50-year record, the league will be kicking off its season on Friday night, September 6th.

News of the season opener was accompanied by confirmation that Amazon’s Prime Video has secured exclusive rights to stream a wild-card playoff game next January.

This will be the first major NFL game aired in Brazil since the Kansas City Chiefs-Miami Dolphins wild-card game last January.

With strong viewership backing from approximately 23 million spectators, the upcoming Eagles opener in Brazil promises to be a highly anticipated event.

Amazon’s long-term commitment has already seen it host 15 Thursday Night Football games each season for two years, including the first-ever NFL game on Black Friday last November.

Despite the tag “exclusive,” the games will continue to be available on broadcast TV in each team’s home market.

Mobile users can also enjoy the games via NFL+ thanks to the NFL’s media rights agreements.

“As media consumption habits evolve, the NFL continues to work with our partners to put our games on digital platforms where our fans are increasingly spending their time,” Schroeder said. “The viewership success of both Thursday Night Football on Prime Video and the historic wild-card game on Peacock last season are strong indicators our streaming distribution is resonating with our fans.”
