“It did surprise me” Bills GM Brandon Beane Disappointed with Compensatory Pick Outcome for Tremaine Edmunds

The Buffalo Bills have received a fourth-round pick for Tremaine Edmunds after losing him to free agency. They were supposed to receive a third-round compensatory pick but received a fourth one, which the general manager of the Bills, Brandon Beane, is not satisfied with.

Due to the league’s compensatory pick allocation method, Beane shared that the Bills and San Francisco 49ers were negatively impacted as they both received a fourth pick rather than a third for losing quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Beane shared via Pro Football Talk, “It did surprise me. I think us and San Francisco, we got a raw deal. We had separate Zooms with the league trying to go through how it was calculated, because by even their accounts, as we were checking with them through the year, we clearly had a third-rounder.”

He further continued, “It’s with all the conversions, the voids and things like that. Numbers that are not really numbers. It was a major blow because we had planned for that and I know San Fran felt the same way. We did our best, and they said no deal.”

The general manager of the Bills, Beane feels that NFL contracts have become more complicated and the league’s projections for compensatory picks are not properly managed.

As per SI, Beane mentioned, “We had separate zooms with the league trying to go through how it was calculated. By even their accounts, as we were checking with them through the year, we clearly had a third-rounder. It’s with all the conversions, the voids and things like that. Numbers that are not really numbers.”

The Bills, as per the general manager, made every effort to convince the league that they were to receive a third-round pick; however, the league said “no deal”.
