The Minnesota Vikings had recently signed quarterback Sam Darnold to a one-year deal as their star quarterback, Kirk Cousins had left for Atlanta Falcons.
If the Vikings select any prospect in the upcoming draft, then things might change for Darnold, who is currently the top choice of the squad. However, the head coach of the squad, Kevin O’Connell, has recently shared that Darnold’s “best football is ahead of him”.
"I think his best football is ahead of him because of how he handled the last couple of years."

O’Connell shared about the quarterback in an interview with NFL Network insiders Tom Pelissero, Ian Rapoport, and Mike Garafolo. The head coach shared, “I think his best football is ahead of him because of how he’s handled the last couple of years. Whether it’s going 4-2 down the stretch in Carolina in ’22, or when you turn on the tape of his work in San Francisco, you can tell Kyle, Brian Griese, they did a great job in the next phase of his career. Fundamentals, techniques, things that you look for to see growth. I’m excited to get going with Sam.”
Further continuing, “I think we can pick up where he left off last year. Like I’ve talked about already love the group of guys that we have around. The quarterback position in our offense right now and I think it’s going to be a really positive situation for Sam.”
Darnold was picked up in the 2018 NFL Draft in the first round as the third pick. He was selected by the New York Jets and then joined the Carolina Panthers. In his last season, he played with the San Francisco 49ers. However, it is unclear if the quarterback will be in Vikings long-term plan but they are confident enough that he will lead them in the 2024 NFL season.
