“What stands out is the domination of Purdue” Wally Szczerbiak Names Purdue As Team to Beat After Commanding Run to Sweet 16

March Madness is in full swing and Wally Szczerbiak provided his insights on the NCAA Tournament as we approach the Sweet 16. The former NBA player is currently working as a college basketball analyst with CBS and recently sat down with Dan Patrick to discuss the remaining fixtures. Szczerbiak understands the pressures of the tournament well. The sharp shooter led Miami (Ohio) all the way to the Sweet 16 back in 1999 in one of the tournament’s great Cinderella runs.

Currently, all four of the no. 1 seeds remain in the hunt for the national championship. Dan Hurley’s Connecticut side are regarded the team to beat but Houston, Purdue and North Carolina should not be counted out just yet.

Szczerbiak has been impresssed by what he has seen from Purdue, and especially their star center Zach Edey.

“What stands out is the domination of Purdue so far. They were outstanding…they absolutely blew Utah State out the floor,” said Szczerbiak.

The analyst talked up Purdue’s chances of a championship push, especially since they will avoid UConn until the final of the tournament. The former Minnesota Timberwolves star believes that with Edey and Lance Jones on the roster, it will be tough to see any team stopping the Boilermakers. He predicted the team would go on to meet up with UConn in the finals on April 8.

“Zach Edey is just such a problem and he posed so many issues,” added Szczerbiak

Next on the schedule for Matt Painter’s team will be no. 5 Gonzaga. If they can manage to win that game, they will go on to face the winner of Creighton and Tennessee.
