Dak Prescott Contract update: Latest on new deal negotiations as Jones says Cowboys “locked and loaded” for this year

The multiple Cowboys franchise record-setter, star quarterback, Dak Prescott contract with the Cowboys will conclude in 2024. He has been with the Cowboys since 2016 and as per StatMuse, he is one of the longest-tenured quarterbacks.

According to Ian Rapoport, “The #Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott have a mutual understanding of his contract situation, sources say, with no offers from Dallas despite him being in a contract year. Owner Jerry Jones said, “We are where we are, locked and loaded for this year”.

No indication a deal is coming.”

The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback will be playing in his final year of his four-year $160 million contract. His cap hold for the 2024 season is $55.5 million, which puts the financial area of the Cowboys under pressure. If they allow Prescott to hit free agency, they would then take a $40.4 million dead cap hit.

ESPN NFL insider, Adam Schefter has also shed light on Prescott’s contract during one of the episodes of “The Pat McAfee Show”, he said, “They haven’t done done anything with Dak at all and the time to do a deal with Dak was before free agency and they didn’t do that so there was no cap savings. So, if they wanted to go get some of these Marquee free agents that were out, they’re gone, they’re off the street. So, now they’re in a situation with Dak going into the last year of his deal, he’s got a $55 million cap number if he leaves after this year, the dead cap money charge is $95 million, they’re gonna have to spread out.”

In the last season, Prescott gave an incredible performance, threw for 4,516 yards, led the league with 36 passing touchdowns, and posted nine interceptions. The Cowboys playoff run ended with the Green Bay Packers in the last campaign.
