On March 26, New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner caused controversy with a statement about Jewish people. During a livestream with streamer Adin Ross (who is Jewish), Gardner said, “I’mma be honest, like no funny, weird s***, y’all run the world.”

Sauce’s comment was interpreted as anti-Semitic by many, as the stereotype of Jewish people controlling the world has a long and hateful history.

Gardner has since apologized, claiming he meant it as a compliment and did not realize the offensive nature of the phrase.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, he wrote:

“I love all people. While my intentions were positive, I just learned that people use those exact words I shared for hate towards Jewish people. That is not what I am about and I appreciate those who took the time to educate me on that fact.”

The moment the New York Jets star’s tweet went viral, NFL fans who are Jewish jumped into support him.

“Bro I’m Jewish. You did and said nothing wrong you said Jews run the world in a good way which is true, I said you were fine so ima defend you. Don’t give in, fuck these fake woke ppl,” one fan wrote.

“Ur good sauce the media just tryna flip the narrative for impressions,” wrote another fan.

“You didn’t haveta apologize, Sauce. What you said wasn’t offensive,” wrote a third fan.

“I’m Jewish. I hated your word choice. Believed you didn’t realize the context. Love that you addressed. You be you. Keep being you. You’re a good egg,” read one comment.

Sauce Gardner was drafted 4th overall by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft. Last NFL season, he started in all 17 games for the Jets. Gardner recorded his first career interception in Week 5 and led the league with 20 passes defensed. He won AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 7 and was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and First-team All-Pro.
