The NFL season is still months away but teams moved quickly during the offseason to secure their desired head coach. A number of teams chose to change direction with a new coach bringing in a new philosophy. While some opted to promote from within the ranks (Jarod Mayo, New England Patriots), others looked to the college level for a new leader (Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers).
One man that is yet to find a new home is the legendary Bill Belichick. The 71-year-old finds himself starting the season without a head coaching job for the first time in a quarter-century. Belichick had a historic run with the New England Patriots where he led them to nine Super Bowls and won six championships over an 18-year period.
After the departure of star quarterback Tom Brady, the last few seasons have been difficult on Belichick and reports suggested the veteran coach could turn to a media position to boost his value. According to a recent piece by The Athletic, however, Belichick now seems reluctant to take on a role on a “regular studio show”.

The news comes as a shock to many analyst and fans considering there is plenty of demand from the networks for one of the most knowledgable football minds on the planet. Earlier this month, Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning confirmed he had also enquired about working with Belichick at his company Omaha Productions.
It remains unclear what the future holds for one of the most decorated coaches in the history of the NFL, but if a path in the media sector isn’t in the cards, it seems likely that Belichick could be on the market to return as a head coach sooner rather than later.
