With MLB Opening Day Approaching, LHP Jordan Montgomery Finally Signs One-year Deal with Arizona Diamondbacks

The MLB free agency market was relatively quiet this offseason with several players having to wait it out for a suitable contract. Pitcher Blake Snell and outfielder Cody Bellinger both had to hold out until the finals weeks of the offseason before agreeing to deals.

On Tuesday, it was finally announced that starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery finally secured the contract he was looking for. Montgomery will be spending the 2024 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. MLB insider Jeff Passan reported that the two parties were in agreement on a one-year, $25 million contract that includes a vesting player option for a second season.

Montgomery is coming off an exceptional year where he finished with a 10-11 record and a 3.20 ERA. His dominant performances on the mound helped guide the Texas Rangers to their first World Series title in 2023.

Signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks means Montgomery finds himself with his fourth different MLB franchise since 2022. The left-handed pitcher had success with the New York Yankees before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals and then moving on to the Texas Rangers last year.

Over seven seasons in the majors, Montgomery has an overall 38-34 records and a 3.68 ERA over 755 total innings.

The move to the Diamondbacks makes a lot of sense for the 31-year-old who is in the form of his life. The Diamondbacks are coming off a season where they won the National League pennant and have a talented roster in place to make another deep run. Montgomery will round out a gifted rotation that includes Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt.
