Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder could be an outside punt at the NBA league MVP title, running Luka Doncic to the wire

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is an outsider to be crowned the NBA league MVP, but it will not be shocking if he pulls it off.

The Thunder star is third in the league in scoring with an average of 30.4 points per game trailing Giannis Antetokounmpo in second by the slimmest margin.

Leading the pack is Luka Doncic but it is on defense and transition that Gilgeous-Alexander tops the pops, leading the league in steals with 2.1 per game.

Also remember that Doncic’s team the Mavericks are not certain of reaching the playoffs, while Gilgeous-Alexander is set to lead his Thunder team to the top of the Western Conference.

This could be a deciding factor in time race for the league MVP.

The Thunder go into their weekend game against the Suns knowing a win could see them tie at the top of the division alongside the Nuggets and Timberwolves, who play each other.

Oklahoma have had a poor week losing to both the Bucks and the Rockets but a powerful response by Gilgeous-Alexander and team could shake up the conference and the race for individual honors.
