Tickets to see the Iowa women’s basketball team in action seem to be the hottest thing right now. Former players, entertainers and celebrities from around the nation were on the edge of their seats for the Elite Eight matchup between the LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes on Monday night.
This was a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament championship, which shattered the previous record for a women’s college basketball game. That game had 9.9 million average viewers and a peak viewership of 12.6 million. Fans that missed out on last year’s battle between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark were careful not to make the same mistake this time around.
Jason Sudeikis, known for his role in the popular drama series “Ted Lasso,” was in attendance cheering on the Hawkeyes. He could be seen taunting LSU with John Cena’s famous “you can’t see me” gesture. Sudeikis was also spotted on the court with an “everyone watches women’s sports” hoody.

Barstool founder David Portnoy was also in attendance at the Times Union Center on Monday. The highly successful businessman posted a video on social media explaining why he flew from Miami to Albany back to Miami in the same day. The short answer: to see greatness.

Rapper Travis Scott, who attended an Iowa home game earlier this season, posted his excitement on his X account during the game. Several other celebrities including quarterback Caleb Williams and former NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant also posted their thoughts during the game.
In the end, Iowa edged a tightly contested contest with a slender 94-87 victory. They will go on to play the University of Connecticut in the Final Four round.
