As per the announcement, Sapp joined as a graduate assistant coach under head coach Sanders, who will be a senior quality control analyst. He has been enrolled in graduate-level continuing education classes at the CU Boulder Graduate School.
Per reports, Sanders had introduced Sapp at a team meeting on Sunday, as recorded on Well Off Media, the YouTube channel of Deion Sanders Jr.
He has described Sapp as a big “teddy bear” and added him to a staff that includes new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston. Sapp has played in the NFL for 13 seasons and is assigned internally as a “senior quality control analyst.”
Sapp has shared this with the team.
“Senior quality control analyst, it’s a mouthful, and you’ll hear me before you see me most of the time. But what we gonna do is big fellas – stance, alignment, and assignment. We’re gonna pour concrete because you know I like nice stuff. And we’re building mansions here, so that’s why I’m here – to help you build your mansion.”
Sapp has been rumored to join the Colorado staff for months, spending time with the Buffaloes last season, he returned to school to finish his college degree so he could be hired to the staff.
Sanders said to the Rich Eisen Show of Sapp last December,
“Even the offensive linemen, they glean from him too because he’s so thought-provoking that he can tell them. Don’t let the defensive lineman get you at that point or this point or this point.’ I think he’s that — he’s a wealth of knowledge, and he’s hilarious, man.”
