Jung, who had been enjoying a strong start to the season, suffered the injury in the ninth inning of the game.
Before the unfortunate incident, the 28-year-old had been batting an impressive .417 with two home runs and six RBIs in the first four games of the season.
This setback adds to Jung’s injury woes, as he missed six weeks of action last season due to a fractured left thumb.
With no definitive timetable for his return, the Rangers are expected to rely on the versatility of Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith to fill the gap at third base during Jung’s absence.
Jung emerged as a key offensive presence for the Rangers during his rookie campaign, finishing fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting.
His impressive performance included 23 home runs and a .781 OPS over 122 games.
Jung also played a crucial role in the Rangers’ triumphant 2023 World Series campaign, contributing a .308 batting average along with three home runs, four doubles, one triple, and eight RBIs.
