Angel Reese, the 21-year-old Marylander, and LSU forward, has made her intentions clear. After two fruitful years at the University of Maryland and two transformative years at LSU, she’s now setting her sights on the professional basketball league.
Reese has declared for the WNBA draft on April 15, as reported in her Vogue profile by Leah Faye Cooper.
“I’ve done everything I wanted to in college,” Reese told the magazine. “I’ve won a national championship, I’ve gotten (SEC) Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro—and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.”
The declaration immediately places Reese as a top contender in an already competitive draft class. Angel Reese’s departure from LSU is at the height of her success with the team.
As a three-time AP All-American, Reese was instrumental to the Tigers’ victory in the National Championship in 2023.
“We worked hard to get here, and I’m immensely proud of the part I played,” Reese once said after one of her inspiring performances.
LSU achieved a resounding 102-85 victory over Caitlin Clark’s Iowa in the much-watched championship game, which escalated what’s fast becoming a top individual sports rivalry in the 202s.
The rivalry between LSU and the Hawkeyes has captivated fans, drawing record-breaking television viewership.
The Elite Eight match that took place on Monday saw another impressive turnout, resulting in a 94-87 win for the Hawkeyes.
“I’ll be working with grown women,” Reese said of her WNBA prospects. “I’ll be working with women that have kids, women that have a family to feed. I’m going to have to work my butt off every single day and grind. And who wouldn’t want that? I don’t want anything in my life to be easy.”
While the Tigers didn’t seize this win, the hard-fought match only served to highlight the level of talent and tenacity that future draft pick Angel Reese will bring to the WNBA.
