Baseball fans are quick to get after a player that is not up to standards and after Bryce Harpers slow start to the season, the Philadelphia Phillies slugger found himself in the firing line. The lefty hitter was 0-11 to start they year entering the fourth game of the season against the Cincinnati Reds. He had struck out five times and had a meagre .154 OBP. It was not the start Harper or the Phillies had hoped for from the two-time National League MVP.
On Tuesday, Harper silenced his critics in style with a memorable night that will go down in the MLB history books. The 31-year-old recorded his first three hits on the night, which all turned out to be home runs. Harper homered in the 1st, 4th and 7th inning to put his team in a commanding position. His final dinger was a grand slam that all but ensured Philadelphia fans were going home happy.
The Phillies went on win the game 9-4 to record their second victory of the year.

On the night, Harper finished with 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 home runs, 6 RBIs to improve his slash line on the year to .200/.294/.800 on the year.
After a sluggish 1-3 start to the 2024 season, the Phillies were looking for a hero to pull them out of the doldrums. The Phils will hope that their dominant performance on Tuesday can be a turning point for a club that has reached the NL Championship Series in back-to-back seasons.
