Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2024, at the age of 35. He was found at his grandmother’s house in Southwest Ranches, Florida.

The cause of death has not yet been officially released, but authorities say there are no signs of foul play. Davis was a two-time Pro Bowl player during his ten-year NFL career.

Now, while the details surrounding Vontae Davis’ death are still unknown, a released 911 call offers a glimpse into the moments following his discovery. Davis’ assistant made the 911 call after another woman found him unresponsive in the gym area of his residence. The woman who discovered him was reportedly too overwhelmed to speak, prompting the assistant to take charge. The PA likely relayed the distressing scene they witnessed via FaceTime while rushing to the house. The assistant also mentioned the last time they saw Vontae Davis was Friday, and someone else, possibly a driver, saw him on Saturday. Plus, the assistant reportedly informed the dispatcher that there were guns in the house, which could be a safety concern for first responders.

This is a sensitive time for Davis’ family and loved ones. It’s important to be respectful of their privacy.

Vontae Davis had a solid 10-year career as a cornerback in the NFL (2009-2018). He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round (25th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. Vontae showed promise as a rookie, recording 4 interceptions, including 2 against Tom Brady and Randy Moss. However, later, faced some criticism in his Miami stint for “lack of awareness” according to coaches.

Next, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2012 and played six seasons, earning two Pro Bowl selections (2014 & 2015). Thereafter, Davis signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills in 2018 but abruptly retired at halftime during the first game of the season for the Bills.
