Dejounte Murray, a former player for the San Antonio Spurs who now plays for the Atlanta Hawks, recently expressed his appreciation for his former coach, Gregg Popovich, on social media. Despite being traded in 2022, Murray expressed his enduring respect for Popovich, calling him his “OG 4 Life” and expressing his love for him.

Recently, Murray has been the subject of trade rumours in the NBA. According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, several teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, and Detroit Pistons, are interested in acquiring him before the trade deadline on February 8th.

“I love that dude to death, he was a father to me… when I’d lose people he’d give me that hug, and I’d cry on his shoulder… He was there for me” : Dejounte Murray on Greg Popvich

In a recent interview on TNT, Murray talked about the possibility of returning to the Spurs, stating that Popovich is like a father figure to him. He indicated he would welcome the opportunity to play for the Spurs again but emphasized his current commitment to the Hawks.

Murray has been performing well this season, averaging 21.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. He has also been shooting efficiently from the field, beyond the arc, and free-throw line.

In July, the Hawks signed Murray to a lucrative contract extension worth $114 million over four years. He is set to earn $24.8 million in the 2024-25 season and $26.8 million in the 2025–26 season.
