The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room will see a change in jersey numbers as Justin Fields steps into a new role.
Fields, previously sporting the No. 1 jersey during his time with the Chicago Bears, at Ohio State University, and in high school, will now don the No. 2 jersey for the Steelers, as announced by the team today.

The decision to switch to No. 2 aligns with the Steelers’ tradition of reserving the No. 1 jersey, symbolizing that no single player is considered more important than the team as a whole.
While some players may temporarily wear No. 1 during training camp or preseason due to limited available numbers, former kicker Gary Anderson was the sole Steeler to wear No. 1 during the regular season since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.
Meanwhile, Russell Wilson, the Steelers’ other quarterback acquisition, will retain the No. 3 jersey that he previously wore during his tenure in both Denver and Seattle.
As the Steelers prepare for the upcoming season, the jersey numbers worn by Fields and Wilson symbolize their respective roles within the team and mark the beginning of their journey in Pittsburgh.
