San Diego Padre Fernando Tatis Jr. made a fashion statement on Friday during their game against the San Francisco Giants. While he didn’t steal the show with his performance on the field, going 1-for-4 with an RBI in their 3-2 loss, his choice of footwear turned heads. Tatis Jr. rocked a custom pair of Under Armour Curry 4 cleats designed by Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.

These cleats weren’t your ordinary pair. They featured a striking “lemon ice” colour as the main base, with a metallic gold finish. Adding a personal touch, Curry inscribed the Bible scripture Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ…,” onto the shoe’s midsole. This scripture holds significance for Curry, who writes it on his basketball kicks worn during NBA games. Tatis Jr., known for his eclectic cleat collection, seemed to embrace Curry’s style, opting for these custom kicks on the field.
Tatis Jr. isn’t a stranger to sporting unique footwear. In a previous game against the Giants, he wore City Connect Jordan cleats inspired by the iconic jewellery brand Tiffany & Co. Clearly, Tatis Jr. sees his cleats as more than just functional gear for the game; they’re an expression of his personality and style. And with this latest choice, he pays homage to Curry’s influence both on and off the basketball court.
