Nika Mühl (pronounced nee-ka mool) is a senior guard for the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies women’s basketball team.

She’s a two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year, an honor awarded by the conference coaches in recognition of her outstanding defensive contributions.

Moreover, she holds the distinction of breaking UConn’s all-time single-season record for assists, with an impressive 284 assists during the 2022-23 campaign.

She boasts a career average of 4.2 assists per game, showcasing her court vision and ability to orchestrate the Huskies’ offense.

Additionally, she’s a capable shooter, averaging 6.4 points per game for her career, with a career-high of 19 points against Creighton in February 2021.

Before her collegiate career, Mühl showcased her skills playing for ŽKK Trešnjevka 2009 in the Croatian Prva Ženska Liga from 2016 to 2020.

Her stellar performance during this time caught the attention of several NCAA Division I basketball programs, including Oregon, Ohio State, Louisville, and USF.

Mühl ultimately committed to the University of Connecticut, citing Coach Auriemma’s visit to Croatia as a key factor in her decision.

During her freshman season at UConn, Mühl displayed versatility on both ends of the court, averaging 5.0 points, 2.7 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.

Her impact continued to grow in her sophomore year, where she was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year for the 2021–22 season.

In her junior year, Mühl assumed a pivotal role for the Huskies, particularly in the absence of Paige Bueckers due to injury. Mühl’s leadership and exceptional play were evident as she set program records for most assists in a single game and led the nation in assists per game for the majority of the 2022-2023 season.

Beyond her collegiate career, Mühl has represented Croatia internationally, at the 2018 FIBA U18 European Championship, where she showcased her talents on a broader stage.

Nika Mühl’s journey from Croatian courts to becoming a defensive stalwart for the UConn Huskies underscores her remarkable talent and dedication to the game, cementing her status as a rising star in women’s college basketball.
