Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes fell short of their dream in the 2024 NCAA National Championship game, losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 87-75.
Although not widespread, there were some minor critiques about Clark’s performance and her WNBA readiness. Specifically, Diana Taurasi and Breanna Stewart criticized Caitlin Clark, but it wasn’t a slam.
Taurasi’s comment focused on the adjustment Clark will face in the WNBA. Taurasi said that the competition level is much higher in the pros, and Clark shouldn’t be discouraged if she struggles at first.
While Stewart spoke about Clark’s legacy. Stewart suggested that winning a national championship would solidify Clark’s place among the greats of women’s college basketball
Possibly, after noticing Diana Taurasi and Breanna Stewart’s comments, NBA legend LeBron James came to Clark’s defense and called out her critics.
“If you don’t rock with Caitlin Clark game you’re just a FLAT OUT HATER!!!!!” James wrote in a post on X. “Stay far away from them people!! PLEASE.”

Diana Taurasi and Breanna Stewart are both legendary figures in the WNBA, with accomplishments at the collegiate, professional, and international levels:
They are both alumni of the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies. They have both won WNBA championships. Beyond the WNBA, they’ve also represented the USA in the Olympics and brought home gold medals.
Diana Taurasi holds the record for most career points scored in the WNBA. On the other hand, Breanna Stewart has won WNBA MVP awards and recently broke the WNBA single-season scoring record.
