Dave Portnoy, the head honcho at Barstool Sports, did indeed turn a cool $600,000 into a whopping $2.7 million by placing a winning bet on UConn to claim the NCAA championship title.
Portnoy placed a pre-March Madness wager of $600,000 on UConn taking home the championship trophy.
Since UConn was a favorite to win, the odds weren"t super high, but they were still pretty good at +360 [Daily Mail]. This means that for every $1 he bet, he would win $3.60 on top of his original bet if UConn won.
With a winning bet and those odds, Portnoy"s $600,000 turned into a sweet $2.7 million payout.
Taking to X, Dave wrote:
“The greatest bet of my life. Thank you University of Connecticut (UConn). Destroyed everybody and everything in their path. They"d win the tournament 100 out of 100 times. The biggest win of my life by a mile."
Alongside, he shared a screenshot of his earned amount.

The University of Connecticut (UConn) won the NCAA championship this year! They defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 75-60 on April 8 to claim their second championship in a row and their sixth overall. This makes them the first team to win back-to-back championships since Florida in 2006-2007.
