Cleveland Cavaliers’ Coach J.B. Bickerstaff Faces Uncertainty as Team’s Playoff Hopes Hang in Balance

The Cleveland Cavaliers are fifth in the Eastern Conference and for the season, they are 46-33. The expectation of the Cavaliers reaching the Eastern Conference Finals is one factor that makes the head coach, J.B. Bickerstaff’s job unsecure.

According to Cleveland Nation, an NBA executive has mentioned that if the team is not able to reach the conference finals, the organization could terminate their contract with the head coach. The executive also shared that he was on verge of getting fired by the team early in the season.

The NBA executive shared via Hoops Wire, “J.B. could get fired if the Cavs don’t make it to the conference finals. He was almost fired earlier in the season before the team got its act together. There are people inside that organization who can’t fathom how a team with Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland is so poor at scoring the ball. J.B. is 100% on the hot seat and he knows it.”

In the 2022-2023 campaign, under Bickerstaff’s tutelage, the Cavaliers reached the playoffs. They concluded their regular season with a score of 51-31, and secured the fourth spot in the conference standings.

However, even with a fortunate regular season score, the Cavaliers lost games to the New York Knicks, in the first round of the playoffs. For the second straight season, the Cavaliers, under the guidance of Bickerstaff, appear to be a squad that has a chance to move further with one of the best records in the conference standings.

Out of the last six games, the Cavaliers have lost four of the matchups against the Denver Nuggets, the Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Clippers, they won against the Utah Jazz and the Philadelphia 76ers.
