Former NBA star and current broadcaster Charles Barkley took an unexpected turn during halftime of the men’s NCAA tournament championship game on Monday night, as he expressed his apathy towards the widely celebrated 2024 solar eclipse.
While the nation marveled at the celestial spectacle, Barkley remained unimpressed, dismissing those who took part in witnessing the event as “losers."
"Were ya'll some of them losers standing outside watching [the eclipse] today?" – Charles Barkley
"They're not losers." – Ernie Johnson
"Yes they are. Hey, we've all seen darkness before. Stop it." – Chuck
"Come on, Chuckster. Don't hate on the eclipse." – Ernie pic.twitter.com/u0lU3dS3T9

In his characteristic style, Barkley humorously questioned the fascination with the eclipse, suggesting that experiencing darkness was nothing new.
“We’ve all seen darkness before," Barkley quipped, implying that the eclipse was akin to a routine nightly occurrence when the sun sets and the moon rises.
However, Barkley"s jesting did not go unchallenged, as his co-broadcaster and close friend, Ernie Johnson, came to the defense of eclipse enthusiasts, urging Barkley not to disparage the natural phenomenon.
