Former Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat arrested for DWI

T’Vondre Sweat, a former standout defensive tackle for the University of Texas, found himself in legal trouble after being arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) following a wreck in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to a report by Josh Newman of LoneStarLive.com, the Austin Police Department responded to a collision involving an SUV and a sedan on North IH 35 SB at 4:41 a.m. on Sunday.

Sweat, who was driving the SUV at the time of the incident, was subsequently arrested for DWI. The driver of the sedan reportedly fled the scene on foot immediately after the crash.

Sweat was taken into custody and booked into Travis County Jail at 2:12 p.m. later that same day. He posted bail, set at $3,000, just two hours after being booked.

In Texas, DWI is classified as a Class B misdemeanor, which carries penalties of up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.

The timing of Sweat’s arrest could not be worse as he is scheduled to meet with both the Tennessee Titans and the Seattle Seahawks this week.

This incident is likely to raise questions and concerns for both teams as they evaluate Sweat’s character and suitability for their respective organizations, particularly with the NFL Draft only two weeks away.
