In a unique shift from traditional pre-draft procedures, the Baltimore Ravens are charting a new course by involving their franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson, in their draft process.
Jackson has been vested with the responsibility of screening receiver prospects, marking a major turning point in how the Ravens make their critical draft decisions.
Raven’s head coach, John Harbaugh, appears to be breaking away from the norm, emphasizing the importance of a player’s perspective in the selection process.
According to Harbaugh, Lamar Jackson has been given a specific task: to help in evaluating the upcoming offensive line class.

Jackson won’t just be watching tape of the receiver prospects. He’ll also share his ideas on how each potential draftee might align with the team’s offensive strategies.
“He looks at guys on tape. Lamar has never been shy about sharing his opinion about draft picks or free agents,” Harbaugh said. “He hasn’t weighed in quite yet, but he will.”
When you invest heavily in your franchise quarterback, such as the Ravens did with Lamar Jackson last year, it only makes sense to put him at the center of your team-building endeavors.
Jackson’s role in prospect evaluation is seen as an extension of this investment, an effort to ensure he has the right lineup to help him succeed on the field.
Despite involving Jackson in the process, the final say on draft selection will still rest on the shoulders of the Ravens’ general manager, Eric DeCosta.
However, for the wide receiver position, Jackson’s voice will play a significant part in their selection.
