Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto had a scary moment during Tuesday night’s game against the Cardinals when he was hit in the throat by a bouncing curveball in the seventh inning. The impact forced him to leave the game after being tended to by the training staff.

The pitch from pitcher Zack Wheeler bounced and struck Realmuto just above his right collarbone, causing him significant pain. He had to be examined on the field before walking to the clubhouse.

Wheeler expressed regret for the incident and hoped Realmuto would recover quickly. Realmuto was diagnosed with a neck contusion and underwent a concussion test, which he passed. Manager Rob Thomson confirmed that Realmuto had no broken bones but was experiencing headaches.

Realmuto, known for his toughness, had to leave the game, which is rare. He’s been one of the most active catchers in baseball since 2021, rarely taking breaks.

After the game, Realmuto wasn’t available for comment, but due to the short turnaround, his absence might extend to the next game. Teammates expressed concern for Realmuto’s well-being, emphasizing his importance to the team.

The incident reminded everyone of the risks involved in the game, but everyone hopes for Realmuto’s quick recovery and return to the field.
