Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is embracing the change in the head coaching role.
A few pundits were muttering that Smith was miffed when new head coach Mike Macdonald and General Manager signed Sam Howell, but nothing could be further from the truth.
The HC and GM told Smith he would be the number one QB this season, has a fully guaranteed salary for 2024 and a restructured deal.
“New coaching staff, old coaching staff, I’ve got everything to prove,” Smith said, via the team’s website. “That’s the way I wake up every day. I’m competing with Sam. I know he’s competing with me. I’m going to compete my butt off. I’m going to compete with everybody in this building to be the best that I can be.”
Smith has worked hard to be the starting quarterback and deserves his shot, and Howell must wait in the wings.
