Davis was a third-round pick in 2020, Davis has an impressive record backing his talent. In the last two seasons, he’s been a major contributor to the Jets’ special teams.
He has participated in 82 percent of the unit’s snaps in 2023. Davis, who has the experience of starting 21 games in his career thus far, also kicked off 10 games in the 2021 season.
Paradoxically, while only playing 19 percent of the Jets’ defensive snaps in 2023, he chalked up a career-high-three interceptions and successfully defensed eight passes.
Encompassing six interceptions, 13 passes defense, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in his prominent journey of 54 games.
There was news swirling around that Davis was turning heads in other franchises. According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Davis had piqued the curiosity of several other teams before deciding to continue his journey with the Jets.
A notable reason behind Davis’s decision to stay put was the opportunity to work under the eclectic mix of the head coach, Robert Saleh, and defensive coordinator, Jeff Ulbrich.
This duo has been a significant influence on Davis, propelling his decision to stay within the Jets’ fold.
The decision to re-sign the crucial player does put a spotlight on the Jets’ financial stand, as they have entered Thursday with a measly $1.43MM left in their cap space budget.
Currently, this is the second-lowest figure in the league and might impose limitations on the recruitment of the rookie class.
