“The guy has never had to take questions on this” Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay questions Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani’s quiet stance on wagering scandal involving his former translator

Shohei Ohtani, two-time AL MVP and three-time All-Star, two-way player of the Los Angeles Dodgers and his former translator was recently involved in a wagering scheme.

The MLB investigators have cleared Ohtani’s name however, New York Yankees broadcaster, Michael Kay believes he should be held accountable for what transpired in the case, as the star has not yet addressed anything further regarding the issue.

At a news conference which was held last month, Ohtani disclosed that he has never placed a sports wager and was not aware that his former translator Ippei Mizuhara had taken millions from his account. Since then Ohtani has not yet responded to any inquiries and the case is being looked at by both the FBI and MLB.

A fan named Ken, talked to Michael Kay on ESPN’s, “The Michael Kay Show” and asked his question stating why the media was suddenly silent regarding Ohtani’s as the matter was given precedence two weeks ago.

Kay mentioned as per NY Post, “The most unbelievable thing to me, fans don’t care about this, the guy has never had to take questions on this. Not once!. What other athlete, in any professional sport, would be allowed to remain mum — not say a word other than a prepared statement and never take a question!

The co-host, Don La Greca chimed in and mentioned that Ohtani has benefitted from local focus considering the game as fans are more interested in their home teams than on game as a whole.

Kay mentioned, “It’s just amazing to me, after every tough loss, Francisco Lindor, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto talk. This guy doesn’t have to answer a question? And he’s in the middle of what could be one of the biggest scandals in baseball history and he has not answered a question.”

It was later revealed that Ohtani’s former translator was unethical and Ohtani was not aware of what had happened with his finances. The case was later handed over to the officials once it was confirmed that the star himself was not acquainted with what happened earlier.
