On the recent episode of ‘Run It Back’ podcast, Rudy Gay answered, if he believed playing under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio was the perfect situation for Victor Wembanyama.
Michele Beadle, asked the former Spurs forward who have spent several seasons as a member of the Spurs under Popovich from 2017-2021, on Wemby situation under the Coach.
"I don't know what Pop [Gregg Popovich] you're getting over there right now. He's a little older now."

"I"m not sure, I don"t know, I don’t know what Pop you"re getting over there right now. You know he"s a little older now, so you know I don"t know what"s going on. You know the game has changed a little bit, you know, so I don"t know, you know? I haven"t been in the locker room or been back, but I know he has the knowledge to help the kid, and obviously he has, this guy is running away with the Rookie of the Year and also putting up some historic stats."
Head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Popovich is celebrated with five NBA titles, an Olympic Gold Medal, and the most wins in NBA history in his career accomplishments.
However, Spurs" have struggles during Wemby"s rookie season, and Gregg Popovich"s direct involvement in those struggles, have raise questions and eyebrows.
On FanDuel TV"s Run It Back podcast, Gay have dropped a bold assessment on where "Wemby" ranks among his NBA counterparts at early point of his career. He said,
"I would definitely put him (as one of the) top 30 players in the league"
Wemby is averaging 22.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.9 blocks and 1.3 steals per game, with 48-34-80 shooting splits.
