On Wednesday, former American football star turned actor O.J. Simpson passed away at the age of 76, he was controversially cleared of double murder.

Attorney Carl Douglas, who represented Simpson during his murder trial, expressed his condolences to Simpson’s children upon hearing the news of his death.

Douglas has shared,

“I was shocked and surprised to hear of O.J. Simpson’s death at the relatively young age of 76. I expect our names will forever be linked together in some way. May he rest in peace.”

On the recent episode of The Dan Le Batard Show, Douglas reacted to the death of Simpson, he said,

“I understand that, probably for the rest of my life, my name will be linked with him. But I’m proud as an American lawyer of the job that me and my team performed on his behalf and I will live with the consequences proudly of that verdict no matter how controversial it may be for most of America.”

His family announced on his X account that he died of prostate cancer, in Las Vegas, officials there said Thursday. CBS News also confirmed via, his agent, that he died after battling cancer.

In 1994, Simpson was arrested as a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman. He passed away “surrounded by his children and grandchildren”, a family statement read.

Simpson in 2008 was also convicted of armed robbery and other felonies, including weapons charges, stemming from an incident in Las Vegas the previous year. He served nine years in a remote Nevada prison and was released in 2017.

He had played 11 seasons of professional American football, nicknamed “The Juice”, a star running back at the University of Southern California.

Not only that, but he won the Heisman Trophy, the top honor in American college football, back in 1968 before joining the National Football League (NFL) a year later as the Buffalo Bills’ number-one draft pick.
