During the Texas Rangers’ game against the Houston Astros, veteran MLB umpire Angel Hernandez, known for controversial calls, made another questionable decision.
Strike one. Strike two. Strike three.

Rangers’ rookie Wyatt Langford faced pitcher J.P. France and worked the count to 2-0. However, Hernandez called three consecutive outside pitches as strikes, baffling the Rangers’ broadcast team and fans on social media.
Video evidence and MLB Gameday tracker supported the belief that the calls were incorrect. Hernández has earned a reputation over the past 30 years for being an inaccurate umpire.

Peak Angel Hernandez during the Astros-Rangers game! The Rangers announcers are in disbelief over a series of missed strike calls.

If you ever feel like you're not doing great at work, just remember Angel Hernandez is one of the longest employed umpires in MLB pic.twitter.com/FAtGKuTCPK

He has to be compromised. Gambling debts or something. It’s the only logical explanation.
Nobody can be that bad. Certainly not an experienced @MLB umpire.
He needs to be either fired or put on paid leave & an investigation to what’s going on with this guy.

Each dot is where it is caught, which is about 2 feet beyond where it crosses the front edge of the plate. All three pitches are moving away from RHH. All three are between edge of plate and LHH box so only a few itches outside, when caught.

The MLB is doing this on purpose to explain why it makes sense to use robot umps.
— Michael Wittmann (@PhilJoh09676694) April 13, 2024
Fire him immediately @MLB! You have other umpires who need their shot. Can’t do any worse!!
— Corey Parrish (@CoreyParrish12) April 13, 2024
Might be worst decision making by a ref/umpire I have ever seen.
And I hate people who complain about refs.
— Cooper McCoy (@CooperMcCoyRE) April 13, 2024
Because the @MLBUA would rather ruin the game than admit failure to their fragile egos. Automated umpires cannot come quickly enough.

It’s okay to call that a strike if you’re calling it a strike all game. But Angel isn’t just blind, he’s inconsistent. He’ll call those balls for the next batter, and that is the real issue with him. IMO.

A strike is where the ball crosses the plate, not where the catcher catches it. And that box is inaccurate. The zone is not from the waist to below the knees
— Madisox (@Madisox43) April 13, 2024
He’s terrible. However, those marks look like where the catcher caught the ball, not where it crossed the plate. Honestly, the first 2 look like strikes.
