Our thoughts go out to Dereck Lively and his family as they face this difficult time. Dereck Lively II, the talented 7-foot center from Duke University, has overcome various challenges in his life.

Born in Philadelphia in 2004, he is the only child of Dereck Lively Sr. and Kathy Drysdale, who passed on her love for basketball to him.

At Duke, Dereck was known for his defensive skills and impressive wingspan of 7 feet 7 inches, averaging around 2.3 blocks per game.

Although his offensive abilities need improvement, his potential as a rim protector is undeniable. Despite personal hardships, Dereck has shown resilience in his academic and athletic journey.

Tragically, Dereck lost his mother, Cathy Drysdale, who had been battling cancer, and he expressed his heartfelt grief and appreciation for her in a touching Instagram post.

Cathy was admired and loved by everyone she encountered, and her passing leaves a void in Dereck’s life. We send strength and support to Dereck and his family during this challenging time.
