Apple TV+’s docuseries “The Dynasty” which celebrated the New England Patriots’ 20 years of success seems to not sit well with several key members of the historic run.

Many believed the docuseries have portrayed Bill Belichick in an unfair image in the 10-part series. Including his deteriorated relationship with quarterback Tom Brady, his friendship with former president Donald Trump, and the benching of Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl.

On Friday, Stephon Gilmore joined the list of players who believe Belichick was portrayed unfairly. He had spent many years playing for the Patriots.

Gilmore, a free-agent cornerback, spent four seasons dominating the boundaries at Gillette Stadium, winning the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year award. He also played a key role in the Patriots’ utter domination of the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

He played defensive back for Belichick’s Patriots from 2017-20, on Friday he wrote on X, saying watched the documentary and disagreed with the portrayal of Belichick.

“Just watched The Dynasty. Bill was the greatest coach I’ve ever been around. Don’t let that fool you. I’ll never forget we were a predominant man team during the 2018 season, all the way up to the Super Bowl. When we played the Rams, we switched to Zone.”

He added in another post,

“No coach would switch what they did all season in a big game like that. Or Him telling me to play trial technique in Buffalo because the Quarterback can’t throw against the wind when I was following a big-time receiver. If you ever played corner, that’s not a good feeling playing trail technique. I shut the WR down to 0 catches.”

The “trail technique” is a reference to the 2021 game against the Buffalo Bills where winds were gusting so strongly that the Patriots won, 14–10, despite Mac Jones throwing three passes all game.

Gilmore was a first-team All-Pro twice during his four years with the Patriots, and won the AP Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019.
