Sean McVay and the Rams Ready to Make First-Round Selection at the 2024 NFL Draft

After trading away first-round picks for several years, the Los Angeles Rams are set to make a first-round selection at the 2024 National Football League (NFL) draft for the first time since 2016.

With the 19th overall pick staring them in the face, Head Coach Sean McVay is ready to make his first debut pick, breaking the second-longest streak without an opening-round selection in the common draft era.

McVay’s tenure at the Rams since 2017 has seen him witnessing two Super Bowls, winning one, but making no first-round selections.

The former trend of the Rams trading away first-round picks proved successful, culminating in their Super Bowl LVI triumph.

However, following a disappointing 5-12 showing in the 2022 season due to injuries to key players, the Rams are ready to amplify their team with the No. 19 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

In contrast to their dismal 2022 performance, the Rams bounced back in 2023 with a respectable 10-7 season and a spot in the wild-card playoff.

This recovery was fortified in great part by their massive 14 draft picks in 2023.

Amidst the absence of a first-rounder, the Rams made the most of their Day 2 and 3 picks, acquiring talents like offensive lineman Steve Avila, linebacker Byron Young, defensive tackle Kobie Turner, and wide receiver Puka Nacua.

Tied with the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals for the most picks, the Rams have 11 draft picks in the 2024 draft.

Their foundational pick, No. 19, could be the much-needed revitalization factor for the team.
